This is a link to our preliminary task that we worked on in practice before producing our main task. This helped us become familiar with the equipment, software used to edit and the amount of time needed to film and edit a movie. Our preliminary task is about a girl going to see a counsellor, this story also links in with the storyline we plan to use for our main task. I think the first few shots of the mid-shot of my legs and the close up of the hand knocking on the door is effective as it creates and makes the audience aprehensive as we do not know yet who this person is; it creates ambiguity. Also the two shot of the counsellor and I sitting across the table from eachother is effective also as it establishes the character's relationship. I think these aspects of the preliminary task were successful however I think there is still a lot we could have improved. I think the close up of my face after i knock on the counsellors door could have been effective as it displays the nervous emotion on my face, however the camers is slightly shakey and therefor doesn't look proffessional. We have learnt from this and when we come to film our main task we will always use a tri-pod when filming still shots. There is also a continuity error when the councellor opens the door and i enter the room., In the next shot the counsellor is sitting in his seat; we did not leave enough time for him to sit down. This makes the film look inrealistic and glitchy. We found the editing software, imovie fairly easy to use, however we did experience trouble in uploading it to a mac computer. Now we are more familiar with the technology we will take this on board for our main task and ensure we have a backup of the film on a memory card so it is easier to upload.

A nightmare on elms street is a very old film so the editing isnt going to be as modern as most current films. It begins with extreme close ups of someones hands who is making a new set of gloves. Fire and many different tools are used. Without seeing who the character is, it creates tension as to what this person is going to do with the gloves. Also the use of gloves in horror films relates to the idea of a possible murder? After the knifes on the gloves are shown, the title bursts through and stops it. The colours used are black red and white, which are the conventonal colours of a horror as these colours connotate ideas such as darkness and gore. After the title, the woman character is shown and she is purely against a white background. At the time this was made this is the simple the edit that they could use. Although it is effective as you focus purely on her and her emotions. After this we see her running through a dark corridor, and shes running from the white room she was previously in. The extreme long shot gets in her running with the corridor, its important for the auidence to see what shes doing, also we see the dark surroundings and her small figure in the distance; this makes her character seem timid and insignificant. The goat that runs out on her is incredibly random but makes the auidence jump as they are on edge. The contrast of white and black occurs throughout, could white mean the way out?

One of the films our group has looked at is the opening scene of Saw V. Although we do not intend use this vertain type of horror genre when in the production of our final task, it has given us many ideas in terms of lighting, mise-en-scene and dialogue.
